Breaking News – Northumberland OPP – Former Principal Charged with Historic Sexual Assault

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit has charged an individual in relation to a historical sexual offence.

The investigation began on November 16, 2023, after the victim reported the incident to police.

The incident is reported to have occurred between 1988 to 1991 while the accused was a principal at a school in Northumberland. The victim was a student and known to the accused during this time frame.

As a result, Douglas KENNEDY, 78-years-old of Peterborough, was arrested and charged with:

  • Sexual assault

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

There is no stature of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed.
