Peterborough County OPP – Driver Charged with Impaired (Name Released)

A driver has been charged with Impaired driving after their vehicle went of the road and rolled on County Road 504.

On February 27, 2024, shortly after 4:30pm, the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a concerned citizen advising that a vehicle had gone off the road on County Road 504 near Jack Lake Road in North Kawartha Township. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled before coming to rest, with the driver trapped in it.

Officers arrived on scene as well as North Kawartha Township Fire and Paramedics. After a lengthy extraction from the vehicle, it was determined that the driver was impaired and as a result was arrested. The driver was transported to a local hospital and then later taken by ORNGE Air to a larger hospital for treatment of injuries.

Ron MCGILL (age 66) of North Kawartha Township, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on April 9, 2024.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
