Video – Damage Estimated at $500,000 Following Fire in Brighton

In Local

Damage is estimated at $500,000 following a drive shed fire in Brighton on Monday, February 12, 2024.

The two-storey drive shed which was approximately 50′ x 50′ was engulfed in flames when Brighton Fire Department arrived shortly after being dispatched around 8:30 a.m. on Telephone Road just west of County Road 30.

Brighton Fire Department requested tanker support from surrounding areas from Cramahe Township and Trent Hills.

People were working in the building at the time of the fire and tried to extinguish it while calling 9-1-1, but due to the older type construction with the dry timber, the fire spread fast said Brighton Fire Chief Gene Thompson.

The heat from the first was so intense it caught a larger nearby barn on fire, but quick action from firefighters on-site saved the barn.

Two cars were destroyed in the fire and a number of others damaged because of the radiant heat.

Two people were assessed by Northumberland County Paramedics and Northumberland OPP shut down Telephone Road in the area of the fire.

The exact cause isn’t known, but Thompson said the fire isn’t suspicious.
