Peterborough Police Service – Man Charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Weapon (No Name Released)

A 22-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after an incident Monday evening.

At approximately 8:50pm on February 5, 2024, officers were called to the area of Monaghan Road and Romaine Street after a motorist called saying a pedestrian had walked out in front of their vehicle and then became aggressive toward the people in the vehicle.  Upon arrival to the area, officers learned that the pedestrian had come at the group in the vehicle with a knife, kicked the vehicle several times and took an item from inside the vehicle before taking off.  Officers searched the area and located a man matching the description given to police a short distance away. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers then located a knife nearby.  During the arrest, it was also learned that the man was wanted on a warrant.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on strength of the warrant and further charged with:

  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief Under $ 5,000
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused is currently bound by a release order with the following conditions to not possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, February 6, 2024.
