First Baby of the Year Welcomed at Northumberland Hills Hospital

In Community, Local

Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) has welcomed its first baby of the new year! Born to Vanessa and Jake Morris of Bowmanville, Ontario, the baby girl—named Georgia Elizabeth—weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces (3940 grams) at birth. Georgia is named after her maternal grandfather, George, who she met earlier in the morning after her arrival. She is the first child for Vanessa and Jake.

“Georgia Elizabeth Morris is named after my grandfather, George,” said Vanessa. “She’s so calm and relaxed. We’re very much in love with her, it’s just wonderful.”

“We’re very excited! There’s lots to learn as first-time parents, and we’re already learning a lot in such a short period of time. It’s amazing how quickly your life can change and we’re just so happy,” said Jake.

As per hospital tradition, Georgia will also be the first New Year baby to go home from NHH with a gift basket prepared and donated by the staff and volunteers of the hospital. Maternal/Child Care nurses took the initiative to hand pick items they felt new parents would appreciate and enjoy. With support from NHH, the NHH Foundation and the NHH Auxiliary, a personalized gift basket was presented to the Vanessa, Jake, and baby Georgia earlier today.

“This is so wonderful, thank you so much. We are grateful for the kindness shown to Georgia and our family during this special time in our lives,” said Vanessa.

The Maternal/Child Care team at NHH welcomed 537 births at the hospital in the last fiscal year, thanks to a strong partnership with local obstetrician-gynecologists, family physicians, anesthesiologists, and area midwifery groups.

Designed with the unique needs of newborns, their mothers and family members in mind, NHH’s Maternal/Child Care unit is equipped with six labour and delivery beds, each in their own private suite, a Caesarean-section operating room, advanced fetal and patient monitoring and a comfortable family lounge.
