Northumberland OPP – Two Individuals Charged with Impaired Operation in Unrelated Incidents

On December 22, 2023, at approximately 7:35 p.m., officers were conducting RIDE spot checks on County Road 25 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized on a driver of a pick-up truck who was in the company of his 10-year-old daughter. The individual who is not named to protect the identity of the child, was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing. The care of the child was transferred to a family friend.

A 35-year-old male from Peterborough has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration.

On December 26, 2023, at approximately 6:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a passenger vehicle in a ditch on Rice Lake Drive, Hamilton Township. Officers attende d the scene and there were no injuries reported. An ASD was utilized by police and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to a detachment for further testing.

Kamryn SUMMERS-LEAVITT, 20-years-old, from Picton, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero.

The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. All received an additional 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day vehicle impoundment.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Report impaired drivers. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
