Township of Hamilton Approves 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets

The Township of Hamilton Municipal Council approved the 2024 operating and capital budget on December 20, 2023 during a special council meeting.

The 2024 Consolidated Budget is approximately $15.2 million, with the operating Budget at approximately $12.2 million and Capital Budget approximately $3 million. The Building Department and Water Operations Budgets, which are stand-alone budgets, are not included in the overall Township budget, were approved at approximately $254,600 and $936,782 ($884,782 water operating budget and $52,000 water capital budget), respectively.

The finalized 2024 Operating Budget was approved at 5.7% increase ($535,297).

Factoring in assessment growth of 1.1% from 2023 as provided by the Municipal Assessment Corporation (MPAC), the net levy increase for 2024 is 4.6%. For the average household in Hamilton Township with a current assessment value of $335,000 the annual 2024 municipal property tax increase is approximately $86.00.

Within the 2024 Budget, Council approved the creation of a $55,000 Environmental Initiatives Reserve for environmental projects, the purchase of water rescue equipment replacement and related equipment for the Fire Department, new ball diamond fencing at the Baltimore Recreation Centre, as well as a part-time administrative assistant to enhance the customer service experience within the Public Works department.

Council also committed to enhancing its roads network by investing approximately $2.5 million for several surface treatment and paving projects, including Crossen Road, Garland Road, Williamson Road, Racetrack Road, and Hircock Road.

To meet the capital replacement and rehabilitation needs for existing infrastructure, prevent infrastructure backlogs, and achieve long-term sustainability, Council approved 1.4% increase as per the Asset Management Plan recommendation. This 1.4% is included in the overall 5.7% increase.
