Video – Operation Red Nose – It Only Works If You Use It

In Local, Police Blotter

It’s a simple fact, Operation Red Nose only works if you use it.

The service was created in 1984, but has been used locally by YMCA Northumberland for several years.

It’s a free ride service where a simple phone call will get you and your car home safely – free of charge.

This year the team of volunteers is working out of the Cobourg Police Station.

On Friday, December 8, 2023 they had six rides generating a total of approximately 300 klometres driven.

A team of three volunteers are dispatched when a call comes in. They will drive you home in your own vehicle anywhere in Northumberland County.

The services is free thanks to community services and any donations go towards the YMCA Strong Communities Campaign.

Unfortunately one driver didn’t reach out to the volunteers. Cobourg Police say the driver is facing alcohol related charges as a result of the R.I.D.E. program on William Street.

Operation Red Nose takes place next on December 15/16/22 and 31.

The number to call up to 2 a.m. is 905-377-1218
