Today’s Northumberland has learned Northumberland County may be purchasing a former seniors centre in Cobourg.

Today’s Northumberland reached out to Northumberland County for comment after hearing County staff were observed around the property at 310 Division Street, which is just a few properties away from Transition House on Chapel Street in Cobourg.

Cobourg Retirement Residence announced earlier this year the doors would be closing on the facility that at full capacity could house 47-residents.

Cobourg Retirement Residence was located at 310 Division Street in Cobourg.

Reaching out for comment, Northumberland County Warden Mandy Martin stated. “Northumberland County is looking at all options all possibilities all real estate ventures because we know we have to move quickly to create housing and shelter options in our communities.”

Martin added, “we know our own communities and needs and we will address those needs even if we do not have immediate funding from provincial or federal sources.”
