Affordable Housing Committee to Host National Housing Day Forum Tomorrow

In Upcoming Events

The Affordable Housing Committee is hosting a National Housing Day forum tomorrow, Wednesday, November 22, for community members to examine the past, present, and future of
housing in our community.

The National Housing Day Forum is a chance to explore housing issues, build community capacity for kindness and bust some housing myths through review of housing policy, data and living experiences. The event will be held at Victoria Hall in Cobourg from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include:

1. Past: Presentation on the history of housing in Canada, and how policies and decisions have led to where we are today.

2. Present: A local perspective, offering a special report of Habitat for Humanity’s Housing Continuum study, which found that while there is much development happening in Northumberland County, housing remains grossly unaffordable for those who live and work within our community.

3. Future: A review of some of the initiatives underway to increase affordable housing stock in Northumberland.

“We believe that housing is not just about shelter; it’s about dignity and the right to a safe and affordable home,” says Dawn Campbell, Chair of the Affordable Housing Committee. “We invite all concerned citizens, businesses and organizations to join us on National Housing Day to make a difference in our community.”

Thank you to Housing Forum partners Community Power Northumberland and Linmac for generously sponsoring the event to ensure it remained free, and accessible to all.

Donations are also being accepted to cover the event’s cost, with additional funds donated to the Warming Hub.

Registration for the event has now closed. However, for last-minute questions or inquiries, please contact Dawn Campbell via email at anhousingcommittee@gmail.com or call 905-269-1944.
