Trees Are In Place – “Christmas Magic” Will Soon Begin in Cobourg

In Community, Editor Choice, Local

Two huge Christmas trees were put in place in Cobourg on Friday, November 17, 2023 and the countdown is on for Christmas Magic.

Northumberland Crane and Tree Services along with Ironwood Tree and Landscape donated their services to cut, deliver and install the 32-foot Blue Spruce and the 40-foot Serbian Spruce that were donated by two Hamilton Township families.

Lee-Anne Jones and her husband Calvin followed their Serbian Spruce as it made it’s way from Majestic Hills Drive to Rotary Waterfront Park lead by a Cobourg Police escort.

Her son Mathew along with his wife Taylor purchased his grandparents (Fritz and Virginia Baethmann) and home recently. Although Jones said her parents loved the tree and wouldn’t think of cutting it down, it wasn’t in the plans for her son.

“So the tree had to come down.”

When he saw that Cobourg was looking for a Christmas tree, “It worked out perfect.”

Now that the tree is gone, a lot more sunlight comes into the home.

Jones said her parents would be smiling because each year they loved coming down to look at the lights that were apart of Christmas Magic.

After their use for Christmas Magic, they will be chipped up for playgrounds and parks in the Spring.

Christmas Magic begins this coming Friday starting at 6 p.m. when Cobourg’s waterfront is lit up along with Rotary Harbourfront Park with over 200,000 Christmas Lights.

Christmas Magic beings with a “Lighting Up Ceremony” and guided walk that will begin at Rotary Harbourfront Park where the park will be lit then the procession will walk down to Victoria Park for the big reveal.
