The bells of St. Peter’s Anglican Church will soon be ringing once again as restoration work is nearly completed.

Reverend Matthew McMillan gave Today’s Northumberland a look on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the last remaining work that is being done at the church in King Street East at College Street in Cobourg.

“The masonry work is pretty much done – we’re at the final inspection stage.”

“Our restoration project is 99, 98% done.”

When the restoration of the roof over the church was being planned and repaired over the last five years, officials and church staff noticed the masonry work along with bricks were in danger of falling onto the ground and possibly causing injury to people walking by.

Everything has been completed and the church is waiting for construction inspections in the next two following weeks, then the scaffolding should be coming down at the end of November and the first church bell recital is planned for December 10.

“We’re going to be ready for Christmas – it will be gorgeous.”

“The identity of St. Peter’s is that it has drawn people from all walks, all places into a community where they support each other. The building is a manifestation of who we are, it’s not what we worship
