The Port Hope Panthers had a winning weekend, defeating the Napanee Raiders at home and the Amherstview Jets on the road in Provincial Junior C Hockey League play.

Napanee led twice Saturday night at the Jack Burger Sports Complex in Port Hope before the Panthers pulled away with three unanswered goals in the third period for a 5-2 victory.

Sidney Wakely, Carter Chadwick, Noah Richard, Josh Sainthill and Isaac Langdon all scored for the Panthers.

Sunday night in Amherstview, Langdon scored twice more and Sainthill and Spencer Eriksson also scored to propel the Panthers to another 5-2 win, this time over the Jets.

Port Hope improved to 3-1-1 with the wins and will host the Picton Pirates this Saturday at 7:30.

Three periods of regulation time and two overtimes solved nothing as the Cobourg Cougars played to a 4-4 tie against the Haliburton County Huskies in Ontario Junior A Hockey League action on Saturday afternoon in Minden.

Riley Pitt scored twice for the Cougars, including the tying goal with just over a minute to play in the third. Jordan Fuller and Andy Reist, who added two assists including on Pitt’s tying tally, also scored for Cobourg.

Cobourg’s Kaiden Harmon also notched a helper on the winning goal and now has four goals and two assists in his past four games heading into Monday night’s matchup against the Pickering Panthers.

Game time between the Cougars and Panthers is 7 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre. The Cougars will be taking donations for the Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids drives. Children and adult winter coats along with snow pants, mittens and boots will be accepted.
