Turning 100-years-old in a few months a Cobourg woman’s first trip to a Blue Jays game was a memorable one.

Teresa Bowen turns 100-years-old on December 9 and her family decided it was time to take her to the Jays game against the Washington Nationals at the Rogers Centre.

Rachel Lalonde said her grandmother has always been a big Blue Jays fan following their games and watching them on tv.

The event was part of Lalonde’s “Ultimate Grandma Summer Camp.”

“I have planned lots of other activities for her the rest of the week as well, so she will have a new surprise everyday this week.”

Bowen has been telling everyone “I’ve never been to summer camp, but I am going to summer camp this week whatever that means!”

Lalonde said the trip to the Jays game has been in the works for sometime.

“I have been wanting to take her to a ball game for a long time, but everyone thought it would be too overwhelming for her.”

After doing some research about accessibility at the Rogers Centre and everything worked out.

They rented a wheelchair for the day and were able to park underground at the Rogers Centre.

“Our seats were in the first section when we got off the elevator, so it worked out perfect!”

Lalonde said her grandmother was very excited to see her favourite player, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Hit a two-run double during the game.

But added, “all she cared about was that the Jays were winning and she could have a hot dog!”

“She had a great time.”

The Jays defeated the Nationals with a final score of 6-3.
