Peterborough County OPP – Three Impaired Charges Within 12 Hours (Names Released)

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to three separate occurrences resulting in three individuals being charged with impaired/80 plus within a 12-hour period over the weekend,

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT LAKES, ON) On August 19, 2023, just prior to 5:30pm, Peterborough County OPP officers attended a single motor vehicle collision on West Clear Bay Road. A vehicle left the roadway entering the ditch and striking a tree coming to a stop. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Diane PELESHOK (age 66) of Trent Lakes, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 12, 2023.

(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) On August 19, 2023, just shortly after 10:30pm, the Peterborough County OPP received a call reporting a single vehicle collision where a vehicle collided with a Hydro pole after swerving to avoid a deer. Peterborough County OPP officer attended and upon speaking to the driver determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Jeffrey HAFFIE (age 42) of Napanee, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 12, 2023.

(OTONABEE-SOUTH MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) On August 20, 2023, just prior to 2:00am, Peterborough County OPP officers were attending to a nonrelated matter in the area of Woodduck Drive. Officers observed a vehicle approaching their parked police cruiser at a high rate of speed. The oncoming vehicle collided with the parked police cruiser. No one was hurt as a result of the collision. Officers attended to the occupants of the vehicle finding the driver to be under the influence of alcohol.

Daniel VANDER EYKEN (age 28) of Peterborough ON was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 19, 2023.
