Fire Damage Confined to Overstock Items at Primitive Designs

In Local

Damage is still being assessed but the owners of Primitive Designs want everyone to know its business as usual after a fire at the business located on County Road 28 just north of Port Hope.

On Wednesday, July 20, 2023, workers were trying to repair a display spider on top of a sea container.

At one point hay caught fire between two sea containers and spread rapidly.

Workers immediately called 9-1-1 and tried to extinguish the fire but it was too intense.

When fire crews arrived the intense heat started fires in the sea containers, but fire crews quickly extinguished the flames.

The owners Ron and Rhonda Dacey said that no products on display were damaged in the main area of the business. Damage was confined to three containers that had overstock in them.

“The important thing is none of our staff were hurt in the fire,” said owner Rhonda Dacey.

Dacey and her husband Ron who own the store are in Belize when the fire happened but their son was managing the store.

“We are very proud of the quick action our son, Maximus and the staff. Immediately after the fire was extinguished staff worked well into the evening and into Thursday removing the damaged items from the containers.”

“It’s business as usual thanks to the quick response by Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services.”
