Quinte West – Arrest Made Following Reports of an Assault

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a male following the report of an assault.

On July 4, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Quinte West OPP responded to a business on Dundas Street East, Quinte West for a complaint of multiple people being assaulted. The accused fled the area prior to police arrival but was located a short distance away. Officers were assaulted during their interact ion with the accused and were forced to deploy a conducted energy weapon to execute the arrest.

Daniel MCDONELL, 25 years old from Quinte West has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Mischief – Destroy or damage property
  • Fail to comply with release order – Three counts

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
