Funding has helped St. Peter’s Church with Necessary Upgrades

MPP David Piccini announced that Ontario is investing $145,300 into St. Peter’s Church to improve advertising, air quality, and community programs.

The grant, awarded in 2022 by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), through the Resilient Communities Fund has enabled the church to make needed upgrades so that programs like Thursday Night Light can continue to be delivered.

“The Ontario Government has and will continue to support members of the community who help those in need” said MPP David Piccini. “With this funding to St. Peter’s Church, impactful programs, like Thursday Night Light will not only be more sustainable, but will be able to reach the most vulnerable in our community”.

The grant enabled St. Peter’s to work with an HVAC specialist to improve air flow on-sight as a number of community groups use the space for meetings and events as well.

A student intern was also brought on board to help upgrade its technological capabilities and provide training to staff and volunteers.

The grant was also used to purchase an external sign for the space.

In addition, the grant was used to purchase new kitchen materials, like a large freezer, food preparation equipment, grocery carts, supplies for take home meals, and it also helped with equipment for dental and foot care programs. St. Peter’s meal program, Thursday Night Light, is now serving 100 hot meals each week and providing many people with a chance to socialize and makes friends.

“On behalf of St. Peter’s Church, we are deeply appreciative of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s help,” said Reverend Matthew H. McMillan. “This grant has allowed the church to enhance our feeding programs and improve the building’s air quality and overall processes. The grant has allowed us to reach more vulnerable members of our community and as a result, has helped Cobourg. We also want to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation on its many years of granting to and improving communities across Ontario.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrate 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities.

Last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Visit to learn more
