Memorial Taken from Beyond the Blue Box in Cobourg

In Local

Staff at Beyond the Blue Box are asking the person that took a memorial for one of their employees return the item to the store.

A memorial for Syd Chatwood had been at the front counter since shortly after he passed away at 32-years-old on January 14, 2023.

Manager of Beyond the Blue Box Stu Weyman said Sid loved working at the Blue Box almost as much as he loved dogs.

The owner of the Australian Shepherd would come into the store frequently and Sid would just light up and the two shared a special bond.

Shortly after his passing the owner of the dog gave Beyond the Blue Box a cactus plant and his picture along with a note was on the plant placed at the front counter of the store by the check-out.

“It was something we had to remember him by and we’d see it when we came and went.”

The memorial was immediately noticed after it was removed from the business on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Staff are hoping the cactus can be returned as quickly as possible and are hoping it was a honest mistake, but Weyman said, “the tag saying that it was in memory of Sid was deliberately removed” and placed on the counter before the item was taken from the store.

“We would like it returned. It’s a memorial for our friend who passed away and a cold hearted thing to have been taken.”
