Cobourg Police and Play It Again Sports Put Smile on Cobourg Youth Replacing His Stolen Bicycle

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

Through the generosity of the Cobourg Police Service, the Police Association, Senior Officer’s Association and Play It Again Sports a hard working youth has a brand new bicycle.

Fifteen-year-old Robert Cochrane couldn’t hold back his smile when two Cobourg Police officers came around the corner and presented him with a brand new bicycle on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 4 p.m.

Cochrane’s bicycle was stolen on May 28 around 9 p.m. as he was working at Harbourlight Delights on Division Street.

The Cobourg youth worked over last summer to purchase the bike with his own money and when the bike was stolen he was devastated.

The Cobourg Police Service, the Police Association, the Senior Officer’s Association and Play It Again Sports chipped in to purchase the new bike, along with a helmet, and most importantly, a lock.

Cochrane’s parents were both at the Harbourlight Delights and said they were extremely grateful for the communities support since the story was reported and very thankful to the police service and Play It Again Sports.

The smile on Cochrane said it all when he found out the bike was actually his.

“It’s amazing – thank you.”

The suspect, a 22-year-old Cobourg man was arrested on Monday evening just after the story was released and charged with the
following offences:

1. Theft Under $5000- Contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000-contrary to Section355(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released with a future court date
