Tree Planting at Cobourg West Beach Spit

In Community, Local

By Terry Marrocco

Students and volunteers under the direction of Cobourg arborist Eddie Cork, dug in for planting nine native trees and 18 shrubs at the north end of Cobourg West beach spit on May 27 and 30, 2023.

These native trees will need much less watering then non-native and will weather the elements well.

Trees planted help prevent soil erosion, wind damage, flooding, provide animal habitat, summer shade and wellness to all in appreciating beauty, hanging out in nature. Also thanks to volunteers: Lori, Denny, Deb, and Jonathan.

Special thanks to Carolyn Oster for her leadership and time in this planting project.

The project could not have been completed without the support of Community Power Northumberland’s (CPN) $2000 tree planting grant. CPN, a non-profit sustainability group’s mission is for a “cleaner, greener future.”
