Cobourg Residents Reminded of Wednesday Information Session

The Town of Cobourg reminds residents of Wednesday’s Public Open House regarding the current review of its governance model, starting at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers (third floor east at Victoria Hall).

As part of this process, the town is seeking resident feedback and recommendations on the current committee-of-the-whole governance model and how it can be improved – all with the goal of streamlining processes and improve the efficiency of the business of town council and its committees and boards.

This event is an opportunity to learn more about the current Procedural Bylaw and the proposed switch to a standing committee model. Participants can speak with the Municipal Clerk to gain a better understanding of the benefits and considerations of both, as well as how each system provides opportunity for public input.

The Governance Review Working Group dates back to the April committee-of-the-whole meeting of council, and its process includes public-engagement findings and recommendations prior to its presentation at a June 19 Public Meeting. A survey and forum were launched on the Town of Cobourg public-engagement platform, and will be available through May 29.

Citizens have several avenues through which to share their thoughts – attending this week’s public meeting or logging on to www.EngageCobourg.ca before May 29 to complete the survey and ask a question or give feedback.

For a full report on council’s current structure (including roles and responsibilities and the powers and duties of council) visit the Documents section on the Engage Cobourg project page for the Municipal Clerk’s report.

Meanwhile, Cobourg residents are encouraged to create a profile on-line and participate in current public-engagement projects by registering on Engage Cobourg. Visit engagecoboourg.ca and click on the Register Today! Button.
