City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Off-Duty OPP Officer Assists Kayaker

In Police Blotter

Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a stranded boater in Fenelon Falls after their kayak overturned.

On May 9, 2023 officers responded to a report of a kayaker in need of assistance. A lone kayaker was located in the water approximately 20 meters off the shore by an off-duty City of Kawartha Lakes OPP officer who swam out to her location and assisted her back to shore. Thankfully the kayaker was wearing a life jacket at the time and was uninjured.

The OPP encourages Ontario boaters and paddlers to be well-informed about Ontario safe boating practices and laws to help ensure an enjoyable and safe boating season.
