Cobourg Council – Library Salary Request Goes Through

In City Hall

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Mayor Lucas Cleveland’s motion requesting all Cobourg Public Library employees making more than $100,000 to disclose that fact to members of the public finally passed four to three at this week’s council meeting.

In debate at last week’s committee-of-the-whole meeting, councillors agreed that disclosure legislation governing how salaries at this level and higher are made public does not apply to the library, due to the relatively lower level of government funding it receives. Therefore, the motion amounts to a request to disclose, as opposed to a demand.

At this week’s final vote on the matter, Cleveland voted in favour of the motion, along with Councillors Miriam Mutton, Randy Barber and Brian Darling.
