In Police Blotter

From December 1, 2022, to January 6, 2023, Cobourg Police Service held Festive RIDE (Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs throughout the Town of Cobourg. The campaign aimed to raise awareness regarding impaired driving and ensure motorists were driving sober.

Over the duration of the Festive RIDE programs, police checked 3,380 vehicles. Police also laid numerous charges, including:

• 4 impaired-related charges

• 1 three-day suspensions

• 50 Highway Traffic Act warnings(i.e.: headlight and seatbelt infractions)

• 6 Highway Traffic Act charges

• 1 Fail to Stop

The Cobourg Police Service would like to remind motorists about the dangers and risks associated with driving impaired. Commit to driving sober and make a plan to get home safely after consuming any substance —be it alcohol, or drugs. All young drivers, novice drivers, and commercial drivers are required to have zero presence of alcohol and/or drugs in their system while driving.

All motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and arrange for a safe ride home. If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1.
