Cobourg Police – Toronto Man Charged with Fail to Stop (Name Released)

A Toronto man has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking after failing to stop for police in the Town of Cobourg.

On Monday, January 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., police on general patrol attempted to conduct a vehicle stop downtown Cobourg. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop.

Police obtained vehicle information and a driver’s description.

As a result of further investigation, police located the vehicle at a residence on Division Street and 28 -year-old Benjamin GRIFFITH of Toronto was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1) Two counts of Operation while prohibited, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CCC)

2) Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) Highway Traffic Act

3) Flight from peace officer, contrary to section 320.17 CCC

4) Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-Fentanyl, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)

5) Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

6) Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-Crystal Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

7) Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-Heroin, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

8) Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) CCC

9) Failure to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) CCC

The accused was held for a bail hearing on January 10, 2023.
