Vehicle Collides with LCBO in Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Police Blotter

It was a close call for visitors to the LCBO store at Northumberland Mall on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. a van collided with the north-east corner of the front entrance to the LBCO located in the Northumberland Mall parking lot in Cobourg.

Cobourg town councillor Randy Barber was volunteering with the Salvation Army kettle program just inside the front doors when the vehicle struck the building.

Barber said he had just arrived and suddenly there was a “huge bang.”

“Unfortunately someone had stepped on the gas I think instead of the brake.”

Barber said the main door which usually is used wasn’t working at the time and people were using the entrance very close to where the van struck the building.

“Some people had just walked through the door when it happened. So it was one of those five or 10 second differences and could have made a tragic difference.”

The van was heavily damaged, but there didn’t appear to be any significant damage to the building.

The driver of the van received minor injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
