While the Cobourg Cougars currently sit seventh in points in the Ontario Junior Hockey League standings, they are top three in winning percentage through 25 games.
That’s because they have a number of games in hand against teams in front of them, including seven to the Trenton Golden Hawks which have already played 32.
With a record of 18-5-0-2, Cobourg’s winning percentage is .760, trailing only the Toronto Jr. Canadiens (24-3-1-1) at .862 and the Collingwood Blues (20-3-0-1) at .854.
The Cougars are coming off a big 2-1 victory over the Haliburton County Huskies (19-5-1-2) Monday night at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Tommy Karmiris and George Krotiris scored the Cobourg goals while goaltender Ryan Piros made 41 saves in the win.
Cobourg has another tough match-up Friday night with a road game in Milton against the Menace (19-5-1-2) at 7:30 p.m.. The Cougars next home game is Monday evening against the Wellington Dukes (18-5-2-1). Game time is 7 p.m. at the CCC.
