Four goals in the third period by captain George Krotiris paced the Cobourg Cougars to a 7-3 win over the Caledon Admirals on Tuesday night during the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Governors’ Showcase at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Cobourg led 2-0 coming out of the first period on goals by Andy Reist and Kallaway Mercer, but the Admirals battled back with a pair of power play goals – one in the second by Dawson Hettiarachchi and another early in the third courtesy of Zane Burleigh.
Krotiris then notched a natural hat trick with three straight goals. The first was netted at even strength followed by a shorthanded goal and then a power play marker.
Tyler Bortkiewicz got one back for the Admirals before Reist scored his second of the night into an empty net and Krotiris registered his fourth goal of the final frame with just five seconds remaining in regulation time.
Cobourg improved to 4-1-0-0 with the win while the Admirals remain winless at 0-5-0-1. The Cougars are back in action Saturday evening when they host the Markham Royals (1-1-0-2). Game time is 7 p.m. at the CCC.
All 21 OJHL teams are playing two regular season games at the CCC during the three-day Showcase, which concludes Wednesday evening.
Scouts from NHL, major junior (including the Ontario Hockey League), NCAA and U Sports teams are in attendance.
Daily passes for adult spectators are $20. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
