Western Ontario Man Charged with Snagging and Fishing in Sanctuary in Port Hope

A western Ontario man was issued a summon to court and charged with two offences after Port Hope Police and a Conservation Officer with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry spotted an individual fishing in a sanctuary in Port Hope on Thursday, September 15, 2022.

At approximately 3 p.m. officers spotted an individual fishing above Molson Street in the Ganaraska River in Port Hope.

The Conservation officer gave the man a summons to appear in court, seized his fishing gear and charged him with snagging and fishing in a restricted zone.

Speaking with Today’s Northumberland after he was charged, he stated a woman told him he could fish up the river so he did.
