Update – Person on Canada Wide Warrant Still Outstanding – Port Hope Woman Facing Numerous Charges

Port Hope resident charged with flight from peace officer and assault of a police officer after police conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Cobourg.

On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, just after 7:00 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Division Street north near the 401 on-ramp.

Police identified a passenger in the vehicle as a man currently wanted on a Canada Wide warrant for parole violation. Police advised the man he was under arrest, and he exited the vehicle. The driver started to drive away, dragging the officer a short distance before the vehicle fled the scene heading northbound on County Road 45. The man wanted on warrant fled on foot.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was assessed and cleared by EMS. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Port Hope Police Service assisted in searching the area. The man wanted on a warrant is still outstanding.

OPP stopped the vehicle at Harwood Road and County Road 45 and arrested the vehicle occupants. As a result, Cobourg Police Service arrested and charged Laurelle Cox, a 35-year-old female from Port Hope, with the following offences:

1. Flight from Peace Officer: Contrary to section 320.17 Criminal Code

2. Dangerous Operation- Cause Bodily Harm: contrary to section 320.13(2) Criminal Code

3. Assault Police With Weapon/Bodily Harm: contrary to section 270.01 Criminal Code

4. Obstruct Police Officer: contrary to section 129(a) Criminal Code

The accused was released with a future court date on August 31, 2022.
