On June 5, 2022, at 3:16am, members of the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to a call from a gathering in the woods, where two people had been assaulted, sprayed with bear spray, and two vehicles had their car windows broken and tires slashed.
With assistance from the Northumberland OPP crime unit and the Community Street Crime Unit, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the municipality of Port Hope on June 6, 2022 in relation to the offence.
As a result of the investigation, three people were arrested and charged with the following offences:
Daniel SHERWIN (age 22) of Cobourg
- Assault
- Mischief over $5000
- Mischief under $5000
- Possession of weapons for dangerous purpose
The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 07, 2022.
Jayden McDONALD-WHYTE (age 22) of Port Hope
- Assault with a weapon
- Assault with a weapon
- Mischief over $5000
- Mischief under $5000
- Possession of a weapo n for dangerous purpose
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Administer noxious thing with intent to aggrieve or annoy
- Administer noxious thing with intent to aggrieve or annoy
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs
The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 07, 2022.
Kevin LUFFMAN (age 54) of Port Hope
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 29, 2022.
