Prom and Prom Parade Guidelines for Students and Parents

Prom night is a night that many senior high school students look forward to their whole year.  Below are a few important reminders for the evening.

Prom Parade Route – If you are choosing to participate in the Prom Parade, the Parade Route is outlined below.  If you are choosing NOT to participate in the Prom Parade, you are still welcome to cross the red carpet and ride the shuttle bus to the CCC.  Alternatively, you may proceed directly to the CCC to be welcomed on the red carpet by school staff there.

 

 

In order to participate in the Prom Parade, you must have completed the following tasks:

  1. Ensure your Prom Contract (and Guest Contract if applicable) are on file in the Main Office.
  2. Prom Parade Contract signed by student and parent and returned to the Main Office Tuesday June 7, @ 3:00pm.
  3. Complete the CCI Prom Parade Vehicle Registration Form using your KPR Schools email address.The link is posted in Class of 2022 ONLY! Also complete by June 7@ 3:00pm
  4. Vehicles can begin staging from Donegan Park at 4:30pm on Friday June 10th.
  5. You will be directed where to park by CCI Staff, Cobourg Police or Security team and or parent volunteers
  6. You are responsible for following the Parade Entry Requirements, Line Up and Staging of Vehicles Instructions, Parade Route and Parade Conclusion instructions on your Prom Parade contract (see below).  It might be helpful to bring a copy with you.
  7. The parade will begin at 5:00pm SHARP.
  8. Only the approved vehicle that will be in the parade will be allowed in the staging area.
  9. The Cobourg Police Officer supervising the Parade Staging area will have final discretion on all vehicular traffic entering the parade.
  10. Once the parade begins, follow direction from Cobourg Police, CCI Staff and Security team on route.  Please respect their directions!
  11. Parade Conclusion:
  1. When you arrive at the drop off zone in front of CCI, exit your vehicle at the red carpet.  Please ensure you have arranged someone to take charge of the vehicle.  Please be as prompt as possible as delays will hold up the entire parade
  2. The driver who assumes control of the vehicle will continue south on King St. East and then turn right onto Abbott Blvd to depart from the parade
  1. Shuttle Instructions to the CCC
  1. On arrival at CCI, students will be greeted by School Administration and Staff.  No backpacks will be permitted inside the school.  A small bag for flat shoes is acceptable  Purses and bags will be examined prior to entry.
  2. Students will proceed directly to the cafeteria and board the shuttle bus to the CCC
  3. Upon arrival at the CCC students will disembark and enter the hall.  Once admitted to the event, students will not be permitted to leave the hall and re-enter the Prom.
  4. Following prom, students will be able to use the shuttle transportation to return to CCI from the CCC if needed.

 

In conclusion, a tremendous amount of work has been invested in planning this special event for YOU!  As discussed in our Prom Assembly, we want everyone to have a safe and memorable Prom experience.  The students of Cobourg Collegiate have always had a reputation for responsible and respectful behavior and it is our intention to continue this tradition and maintain the high standard of Community, Respect and Excellence that CCI is known for.

CCI 2022 Prom Parade – Friday June 10, 2022

PARADE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • All participants must be seated and in seat belts throughout the parade.
  • Parade participants, including drivers shall not consume alcohol, drugs, or smoke during their participation in the parade.
  • An entry may be refused access to participate in the parade if CCI staff or Cobourg Police find the entry does not meet parade guidelines or differs from their approved entry form. All parade entries must be approved by CCI Administration/Prom Committee Executive or Cobourg Police prior to Tuesday June 7 by 3:00pm.
  • You must stay where you start!  Meaning, if you start the parade in one vehicle, you must stay in the vehicle for the entire route.
  • No vehicle shall exceed 10 km per hour during the parade which will be led by an officer of the Cobourg Police Service. Revving of engines or squealing of tires will not be tolerated.
  • Operators of specialized vehicles in the parade must abide by the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, Cobourg town by-laws and Commercial Motor vehicle/Ministry of Labour safety standards (i.e. helmets on motorcycles, etc…)
  • The throwing, tossing or distribution of candy, beads or other materials from parade vehicles is specifically prohibited.

 

LINE-UP AND STAGING OF VEHICLES

  • The parade staging route will be from the parking lot at Donegan Park, Darcy St (facing north on east side of street), Lakeshore Drive (facing west on north side of street) and, if necessary, Abbott Blvd (facing south on west side of street). Whenever on a town road, you will be parking your vehicle on the right side of the street ONLY!
  • Vehicles can begin staging by 4:30 pm. You will be directed where to park when you arrive by CCI staff, Cobourg Police or Security team. Proceed to the parking lot at Donegan Park, once it is full, proceed to the next available space along the staging route as directed by the team.
  • All students will respect the Park area as well as the private property along the staging route, including leaving driveways clear for residents to access as well as the flow of traffic through intersections. Only the approved vehicle that will be in the parade will be allowed to park in the staging area.  The parade will begin at 5:00pm SHARP.
  • All participants must arrive at the staging area in vehicles that meet the regulations of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

PARADE ROUTE

  •  The parade will proceed on the following route: north on Darcy St, up to King St E intersection, turn east on King St E to the drop off zone in front of Cobourg Collegiate Institute.
  • The Cobourg Police Service will provide officers for the beginning and ending of the parade and intersection support.  Please respect their directions.

PARADE CONCLUSION

  • Once your vehicle arrives at the drop-off zone in front of CCI, you will exit your vehicle at the red carpet. Please unload quickly as delays will hold up the entire parade.
  • Once students exit their vehicle, their driver will continue on King St E then south on Abbott Blvd to depart from the parade. Once a vehicle leaves the permitted parade area all the rules of the Highway Traffic Act apply.

***If extreme weather makes it unsafe to host the parade, all CCI social media platforms will announce the parade is cancelled. At that point, prom attendees can proceed to CCI for bus pick-up or go directly to the CCC.***
