Lakefront Utilities Inc. Reviews Cause of Another Outage

In Local

At 6:34AM on May 8th, the power went out for approximately 3,404 customers of Lakefront Utilities Inc. (Lakefront), in Cobourg.

Operation crews were dispatched immediately after alarms were received through Lakefront’s Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) and SmartMAP software. Crews investigated and patrolled the area.

Operation crews discovered that there was a mechanical failure of connection to a main feeder line.

Viper recloser R401 sensed the fault downstream and opened, resulting in the outage in the north and west end of Cobourg.

Once the issue was determined, crews proceeded with repairing the failed connection and worked to restore power to all affected customers.

Following Lakefront’s safety protocols, crews conducted a full feeder patrol before safely restoring power. At 8:36AM, power was restored to all 3,404 customers.

“We are committed to providing safe and reliable service to our customers. Lakefront continues to invest annually in our local distribution system to improve its dependability. Our crews are currently upgrading the aging infrastructure that resulted in the outage on May 8th.

We understand how inconvenient power outages are, and unfortunately even with our continual investments, outages are sometimes unavoidable.

We encourage our customers to always have a 72-hour emergency kit prepared. Lakefront would like to thank our customers for their understanding and our dedicated team for working safely and quickly to restore power,” commented Dereck Paul, President and CEO of Lakefront Utilities Inc.

Lakefront Utilities is proud of its achievements as a locally owned utility and remains committed to providing reliable services that contribute to the comfort and safety of the community. Our reliability statistics continue to exceed industry standards. More information can be found at https://www.lakefrontutilities.com/financial/
