The Cobourg Cougars battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits before the Toronto Jr. Canadiens pulled away to a 4-2 win in the opening game of the Ontario Junior Hockey League South-East Conference final Saturday night in Toronto.
Andy Reist scored for the Cougars with his club trailing 1-0 early in the second period and Jacob Gilbert tallied his goal for Cobourg when they were down 2-1 under five minutes into the third.
Toronto scored twice less than three minutes later to gain the lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way. Tyler Fukakusa tallied two goals for the Jr. Canadiens while Eric Vitale and Kyan Haldenby also scored.
Game 2 is set for Monday night with puck drop set for 7 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre.
