Cobourg Police Service Launches Community Safety Innovation Fund

Cobourg Police Service (CPS) is excited to announce the launch of a new pilot fund. As CPS works to provide superior policing services to citizens and businesses in the Town of Cobourg, innovation and partnerships are key to enhancing community safety.

The Cobourg Police Services Board has made the commitment to launch a new pilot program intended to inspire community organizations to work together with CPS to develop and test innovative community safety and well-being strategies.

“The service has a demonstrated track record in piloting new methods to increase community safety through innovation. This includes working closely with community partners like Cornerstone, Northumberland CFDC, Rebound, and NHH where in some cases joint programming has expanded to the benefit of multiple communities,” says Chair Dean Pepper, Cobourg Police Services Board. “The Community Safety Innovation Fund is a new, pilot program intended to catalyze more activities that can enhance public safety.”

Funded by Cobourg Police Service – Business Centre (Corporate Services), the new fund provides an initial $50,000 to support projects that offer creative ideas to advance community engagement, problem solving, new approaches to crime prevention or the impact of crime.

By investing in incremental community based projects, the fund will help drive collective action in improving community safety. The goal is to seek, enhance and expand high-quality, innovative programs that achieve clear results for residents and businesses. The funding aligns to projects where organizations are based in or directly service the Town of Cobourg, though partnerships are encouraged with groups outside our community to bring in their ideas and increase capacity.

“A safe community is not the sole responsibility of traditional policing. That’s why we are pleased to continue to work in partnership with our community to find new ways to address the conditions that influence public safety.

We’re looking for new and innovative ideas that we can try together. Whether that results in one project or several will be determined once applications are received and assessed,” says Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service. “Our hope is that our $50,000 will ignite big ideas and big results that are long-term, impactful, and sustainable for Cobourg and Northumberland County.”
Applications will be received up to June 30th 3:00 p.m. EST.

Further information may be found at cobourgpoliceservice.com/csif Interested organizations are invited to attend optional information sessions scheduled at Venture13-739 D’Arcy Street-Cobourg Tuesday, April 26th 10:00 a.m. and Tuesday, April 26th 2:00 p.m. (both sessions will cover the same content).
