Loyalist College Donates $10,000 in Support of Ukrainian Emergency Fund

In Local

Loyalist College has partnered with 19 other Colleges across Ontario in support of UNICEF’s Ukraine Emergency Fund. $210,000 will be donated to the fund, with Loyalist College contributing $10,000 to the total donation.

“Loyalist College and the entire Canadian higher education sector has supported Ukraine’s democratic evolution for over 30 years, and unequivocally supports Ukrainians’ rights to live in peace and freely choose their future,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, President and CEO of Loyalist College. “To support Ukrainian families at this most critical time, we are pleased to partner with 19 other colleges across Ontario on this joint donation which will provide much needed assistance to all who have been impacted by the unfolding humanitarian crisis.”

Donations to the Ukraine Emergency Fund will support the organization’s ongoing programs and response to the escalating need in Ukraine by providing communities with safe water, urgent medical aid and health-care services, child protection and education. UNICEF has been working in Ukraine since 1997.

In addition to other supports, 19 colleges contributed to the joint donation, along with contributions from Colleges Ontario (the sector’s advocacy organization) and the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS).

Some colleges have elected to make additional and significant contributions at the institutional level. These contributions include supports such as tuition relief programs, new scholarships, counselling programs, community partnerships and more. Loyalist College is also working with other community partners locally to identify additional ways to provide assistance.
