Durham Regional Police – Teacher Charged with Luring in Oshawa

A 44-year-old Oshawa teacher has been charged with luring from an incident in 2016.

Investigators from the Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation in February of 2022 after receiving information about the online luring of a youth from Kawartha Lakes, Ontario. The suspect, a teacher at Coronation Public School in Oshawa, and previously a teacher at David Bouchard Public School in Oshawa, was also a volleyball coach for females at a Durham volleyball club.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

Joel BANBURY, age 44, of Scugog is charged with Luring to Facilitate the Commission of Sexual Assault and Luring to Facilitate the Commission of Sexual Interference. He was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators want to ensure there are no other victims.

The Durham Regional Police would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Canadian National and Ontario Provincial Strategies to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. “This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.”
