Cobourg Police – Suspect Charged After Bystander Assaulted Trying to Break Up Fight (No Name Released)

Man charged with assault after police respond to a disturbance at a north end business.

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, police attended a business in the north end of Cobourg in response to a report of a group of individuals fighting inside the store. When police arrived, the group had already left the store.

Witnesses reported that a bystander was assaulted when the bystander tried to intervene.

As a result of the police investigation, a person of interest was identified. On Sunday, February 27, 2022, a 19-year-old Cobourg man attended the police station to turn himself in. The man was arrested and charged with the following offence:

1. Assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code

The man was released on an Undertaking with a court date of March 30, 2022.
