Cobourg Police – Break and Enter Suspect Arrested (Name Released)

Man arrested for break and enter after police are called to a residence and business in Cobourg.

On Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 2:10 a.m., police were called to a residents near Elgin Street West and Chipping Park Boulevard for a report of a man in the area with a knife who stated someone was chasing him.

Police attended and found the front window of the residence broken. Police were informed that the man entered through a bedroom window, engaged with residence, and then fled the residence out the back door.

The man was reported to be in possession of a knife and bleeding.

Police were then notified that the man was at a business on Division Street requesting EMS.

While on scene at the business, another complainant approached police and advised that the same man broke into their apartment on Division Street demanding a cell phone.

Given the serial nature and seriousness of this police investigation the accused is being identified. Emanuel Sutherland (28) of Cobourg was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1. Two counts of Break and Enter contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

2. Two counts of Possession of Weapons for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code

3. Robbery contrary to section 343(a) of the Criminal Code

4. Three counts of Breach of Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal

The accused was transported to the hospital for assessment and released to police custody where he was held for a bail hearing. He was remanded into custody, with a court date of Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
