Relaxing Day of Fishing The Ganaraska River in Port Hope

Anglers were enjoying the weather along the Ganaraska River in Port Hope on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

From along the banks, and on the ice the anglers enjoyed the warm weather.

One angler even ventured out onto the east break wall in hopes of catching a trout.

Climbing over ice covered boulders used for the east break wall it would take approximately 15-minutes to go out to the end.

There is even a sign warning people to not use the east break wall.

“Warning – Access beyond this point is unsafe. Rocks are uneven and can be slippery. NOT FOR PUBLIC USE”

John Wolsegger from Bowmanville ventured onto the west pier which is much closer to the shoreline.

Wolsegger said he fishes the Ganaraska River often, but always comes prepared wearing metal spikes to his boots and a floater suit.

“It’s slippery out there that’s why I have the big cleats and I have a floater suit on in case I do fall in I’ll float.”

When he first got the floater suit he tried it out by jumping into a swimming pool and said his hair didn’t even get wet.

“If I was scared I wouldn’t go out there.”

The anglers along the entrance to the Ganaraska River said a few fish were caught during the day – but not many.
