Cobourg Staff Replacing Police at Outdoor Rink Starting Wednesday

In Local

There will be a bit of a change at the Rotary Harbourfront Rink starting on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Cobourg Police Special Constables had been deployed at the outdoor rink during the hours of operation in December.

A Special Constable was in a cruiser and would do checks on the washroom facilities and around the rink periodically. They were also available should members of the public have any questions, concerns or require assistance.

Communications spokesperson Lisa Munday said there were a few instances of drinking in a public place, loitering and one incident that was reported on social media.

Munday said, “as we enter Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen with modifications, Town of Cobourg Staff will be scheduled for shifts at the rink. Cobourg Police Service will provide support as needed.”
