Cobourg Police – Man with Knife Arrested on Warrants After Being Tasered

On Friday, December 10, 2021, at 7:25 a.m., a uniformed officer on general patrol near James Street West and George Street observed a man who was wanted on two outstanding warrants.

When the officer attempted to place him under arrest, the man provided false identification to the investigating officer and fled on foot.

After a brief foot pursuit, the officer attempted to effect an arrest. The man resisted arrest, and the officer deployed a conducted energy weapon (also known as a Taser) to safely make the arrest.

The suspect dropped a utility knife when he was tasered/

The man was transported to hospital and the scene was held until the injuries were determined to be minor.

As a result of police investigation, 24-year-old Jacob ROBINSON of Cobourg was arrested on the strength of the warrants and charged with the following offences:

1) Obstruct Police contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

2) Escape Lawful Custody contrary to section 145(1) of the Criminal Code

3) Enter Premises when Entry Prohibited contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Trespass to Property Act

4) Possess Weapon Dangerous contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code

5) Fail to Comply with Release Order – contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code

ROBINSON was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
