Kawartha Lakes OPP – Festive RIDE Results in Impaired Driving Arrest

Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a driver for impaired operation during a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check as part of the annual Festive RIDE Campaign.

On November 28, 2021, just after midnight, officers stopped a motor vehicle on Highway 35 in Fenelon Township, at a RIDE spot check. A Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted at the roadside. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing, including a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Evaluation.

As a result, Jacob WERKER, 30 years of age, of Peterborough, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to surrender licence

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay, on December 23, 2021.

The Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.

This year’s OPP Festive RIDE Campaign runs from November 18, 2021, to January 2, 2022.

Ontario citizens are reminded to do their part during the campaign by never driving after consuming alcohol or drugs and never letting anyone else drive if you know or suspect th at they have consumed either.
