Quinte West OPP – Arrest Made in Multiple Thefts from Vehicles in Trenton

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against a Quinte West individual following a string of thefts from motor vehicles that occurred in a Trenton neighbourhood and a motor vehicle collisi on.

On November 15, 2021, at approximately 6:45 a.m., Quinte West OPP responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle on Birch Street in Trenton. The Investigation, which was assisted by the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) determined that a total of approximately 13 unlocked vehicles were entered on Birch Street and John Street between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Various items were stolen including electronics, cash, credit cards, debit cards and personal identification. Following an extensive investigation, a suspect was identified and a warrant was sought for their arrest.

On November 16, 2021, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Quinte West OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Hamilton Road, east of Aikins Road. Officers located the driver, who identified himself as the individual wanted for the thefts from vehicles. After observing signs of impairment, officers arrested the accused for impaired driving and transported them to hospital with minor injuries. Investigation further learned that the vehicle the accused was driving had been allegedly stolen from a Belleville address.

Shane O’SULLIVAN, 42 years old of Quinte West has been charged with the following offences in relation to all three incidents:

  • CC 320.14(1)(a) – Operation While Impaired by Drug
  • CC 334(a) – Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
  • CC 355(a) – Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • CC 733.1(1) – Fail to Comply with Probation – two counts
  • Highway Traffic Act 130(1) – Careless Driving
  • Highway Traffic Act 53(1) – Driving While Under Suspension
  • Liquor License Act 32(1) – Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
  • CC334(b) – Theft under $5000 from a motor vehicle – two counts
  • CC 177 – Trespass at Night – two counts

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 17, 2021.
