Belleville Police Officer Charged With Assault

In Police Blotter

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a member of the Belleville Police Service in relation to an incident earlier this year.

In late September 2021, the Chief of the Belleville Police Service requested that the OPP conduct an independent investigation into allegations related an in-custody incident involving a 36-year old male on September 17, 2021.

Members of the OPP Professional Standards Unit have now completed their investigation. As a result, Constable Laura WHITE of the Belleville Police Service, age 33, has been arrested and charged under section 266 of the Criminal Code with assault.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 18, 2021.

Questions related to the employment status of the accused should be directed to the Belleville Police Service.
