Local Medical Officer of Health Now Supporting Parades

In News

The local medical officer of health is now supporting communities celebrating festive traditions like parades.

But Halliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Medical Officer of Health Dr. Natalie Bocking said people attending events like parades should do everything they can to keep communities healthy.

“This means staying home if sick, keeping a physical distance where possible, wearing a mask, and washing hands/using hand sanitizer if touching surfaces frequently used.”

Last week during her weekly media scrum Dr. Bocking said, “when I think of parades and I think of often large crowds pressed closely together – that’s not something I’m comfortable with right now.”

But after nearly a week and the province announcing new regulations concerning parades Dr. Bocking seems to have had a charge of heart.

“As you mentioned, we understand that the province will be lifting the participation restrictions for community events, including parades.”
“We are looking forward to supporting communities in celebrating festive traditions while continuing to protect themselves, their families and others in the community from COVID-19.”

The Health Unit advises residents who are participating in Halloween activities, to practise basic public health measures when attending any gatherings such as Santa Claus parades. While outdoor events are lower risk for the spread of COVID, everyone should do their part to keep communities healthy.
