Durham Police – Charges Laid in Fraud Investigation

A 37-year-old Whitby male faces charges following a fraud investigation in Whitby.

Investigators from the DRPS Financial Crimes Unit commenced a fraud investigation between June and August, 2021 involving the suspect who posed as a sales person for Canada Windows and Doors online through the Facebook Marketplace platform. The suspect collected down payments from several victims, however they never received any services.

The Financial Crimes Unit would like to ensure there are no other victims or witnesses.

Leo CHIECO, age 37, of Goldring Drive in Whitby, is charged with: Fraud Under $5,000 x4; Possess Proceeds of Crime Under $5,000 x4 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. 

He was held for a bail hearing.
