Update – Driver Charged After Transport Hits Railway Bridge in Cobourg

A driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act after a transport truck ran into a CP Rail bridge on Sunday, October 24, 2021.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. a transport was travelling southbound on Burnham Street when it struck the railway bridge and became wedged underneath.

The integrity of the trailer was comprised due to the collision along with the top of the trailer sustaining heavy damage.

Approximately 18 rolls of paper weighing approximately 3,500 pounds each was off-loaded on Tuesday afternoon after a Chadwick’s Towing accessed a large forklift.

The driver was charged with disobey sign under the Highway Traffic Act.

Burnham Street was re-opened around 4 p.m.
