Remembering Much Loved Port Hope Man with Candlelight Walk

There were tears, hugs and laughter during a candlelight vigil in Port Hope on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 remembering a much loved Port Hope man who died when he fell from a railway bridge.

Family and friends came out to the vigil to remember thirty-four-year-old Spencer Devine who died on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

The vigil started at the east beach parking lot at 7 p.m. and went north on Mill Street South to a memorial near the intersection of Peter and Mill Streets.

Spencer’s brother Chase drove his car to lead the procession playing a number of songs while family and friends walked behind holding candles in tribute.

Just prior to the end of the vigil, the group sang Sweet Caroline in Spencer’s honour.

The Toronto Maple Leafs play the song during each game and Spencer’s mother Liz Jeffries said it was appropriate as Spencer was a big Leaf fan.

“He’s looking down thinking it was perfect,” said his mother Liz

“It was beautiful to see all the candles coming down the hill and his brother driving his car leading with his favourite music.”
